If it comes with a kit? The unit has to ventilate. Check with a appliance store that deals in your brand.

You won’t be able to maintain the required clearances around it. It will be a fire hazard.

The microwave convection oven has to have a ventilation kit to be converted to a built in and that kit would contain the clearance requirements. If your appliance does not come with this built in ventilation kit, it cannot be used as a built in because the appliance will overheat and can cause a fire. I did this exact project in my old kitchen.

I would definitely recommend calling the manufacturer, if anyone else has this question. I couldn't find clearances in the Owner's Manual, but the manufacturer had them. The cabinet I want to put this into is larger than standard size. Manufacturer says the microwave only needs 2" of clearance on all sides to ventilate properly. So I should be fine without the kit. The it makes it look finished. I purchased my last convection microwave at a scratch and dent sale. It had a dent on top, but since I was making it built in, it didn’t matter. The kit was about $100 and the GE oven was more than 50% off. Before I got the kit the microwave would often push back too far - so you might want to put a stop in back to prevent that from occurring. The kits are not that expensive and it give the installation a more finished look.

I did check if I could get a kit for the model but the microwave was manufactured in 2002, so GE no longer has any trim kits available. As far as aesthetics go, it looks ok, because it's a counter top model.

I have same question, it has an intake and exhaust fan in the back of the oven. I wonder if i added a 50cfm muffin fan in the side of the cabinet, should it intake or exhaust the cabinet?
